It’s so funny
To look back
To when we met
Because my instincts
Knew
To get as far away from you as possible
And I didn’t listen
To my gut
I got close
Too close
So close that I lost myself
It was like falling down this rabbit hole
It feels like a whole different lifetime
Looking back on when I knew you
Like I aged 10 years
And came back a different person
Same body
Different mind
It’s so funny
Because I once couldn’t imagine
Not having you in my life
Couldn’t breathe-didn’t want to-without you
It’s so funny
Because now I cannot imagine speaking to you again
It’s so funny because now we are strangers
Who once meant a lot to each other
Well...you meant a lot to me
And now it’s like I never knew you at all
And perhaps I never did

Because it feels like a nightmare I woke up from
But the feelings and the memories remain
You are the something I cannot shake some days
It’s so funny
To know
That you will hold a piece of me
A genuine, untouched piece
That no one else can ever have
Not even myself

How easily I wrecked myself for you
For empty promises
Empty stares
Empty words
Empty everything
Just for validation
To be seen
Heard and felt
By someone who does not know love

That I loved you most
While you lusted after me

How women confuse lust for love
How we exchange our bodies
And our own self-respect
If only I had known
If only I had accepted the truth
That you loved me for my body first and foremost
And you never loved me for my soul.
