Know Who You Are

Know Who You Are

A Poem by Legacy
"

Is this a possibility... in Knowing Who We Are, do you think we should take the time to understand others, before investing in our own?

"

Understanding who we are?

As a young child I was faced with many circumstances which stretched ‘who I was’ at an age when baseball, snowballs and candy should have consumed me.

How are we to assist, teach or even lend a hand to another or for that matter given the right when we truly do not understand who we are?

Do we lend an ear?  Or just keep Talking?

Understanding Who We Are, could this expose us for who we truly are?

The future moves into the past…

Know Who You Are

Facing our Fears – Is all, but a mirror image

One we refuse to see - one we refuse to acknowledge?

I claim no acceptance in fostering appreciation

Encompassing emotions, other than my own

Elapsed time, this I can-not proclaim.

Guilty I am… Immersing ‘my being’ in the past

The lifting of boundaries (through Love and Understanding)

Offered in abundance… “This eludes me.”

Where have we lost such pluralisms in life?

Why do we wish to ex-change the reflections of who we are?

Without values we have no foundation

Our future should not, and must not, be transmogrified

(Because of our past)

Eyes of first impressions lost in judgment

Casting of shadows, tossing blame

Why must we quench our thirst from the well of hatred?

Who are we to judge without knowledge, or out of fear?

Thoughts become nothing more than reflections
History will - recall voices within our diverse past

When we really speak the words ‘Thank You’ ‘I Love You’ ‘I ‘Appreciate You’ ‘I am Truly Sorry’ are they really filled with the meanings they deserve?

A message conveyed or perhaps ‘lesson to be learned’

Looking back – moving forward

Beyond Cognition, reflections now dissolved

 Image of another becomes clear

I must vanish to…

Know Who {You} Are…

Wow, it leaves me thinking of a lot of questions I have to ask myself. And you're right, why are we still so teribly prejudice, always angry and upset over the silliest little things. And I totally agree with Demyra there that sometimes we say things like I love you without even thinking it. I know I do it all the time, mostly to friends and family but I say it so that, should anything ( Goddess Forbid) happen to either of us, they know that they were loved.

This piece really makes one think about the value of life and how this world will be such a better place if people, in general, would appreciate and love himself or herself a little bit more. This piece also leaves the reader alot to think about and that is always a sign of a magnificent writer. I thank you for writing this piece... It has certainly helped me in many ways. Keep up the great work!

I live with this everyday, except it's of my husband that this poem evoke these thoughts.
Why live in the past?
Why must we quench our thirst from the well of hatred?
and has he learned any lessons throughout his life?
I feel none of these have been resolved for him.

But I know it's up to him to learn who he is :)

you definitely have a unique voice all your own...you seem to write very physchology-like(excuse the phrasing i wasn't sure how to word that)

At the age of 42, I'm still learning about Who I Am. One thing that I have learned is that I defined myself, based upon the relationships I had with others. Now I realize that I was simply trying to put off the inevitable, by consuming myself with other's hopes, dreams, disappointments and joys, rather than focus on my own. I know now, how important it is to Know Who I Am, because in doing so, only then can I give my best of myself, to myself, and in turn, to those I love.

A magnificent and deeply insightful piece, Legacy.

Great work. It's very true.
I think to know ones self is only to know thier own tendencies in behavior. We are all forever changing with the world, but who we are, I suppose the most it can be summed to is how we react to things.
Some people jump at thunder,
While others walk closer to the window...
Heh, lookey there, you've inspired me. Thank you for the poem and the inspiration.

Hello,

I have a couple of thoughts to share... if I may.

I really like this, I read it 2-3 times.

I am on a search, but I haven't figured out what I am looking for...?...?

"When we really speak the words 'Thank You' 'I Love You' 'I 'Appreciate You' 'I am Truly Sorry' are they really filled with the meanings they deserve?"

In my life I have learned that the words "I am sorry" are really meaningless. It's as if someone is giving a gift because they offer their repentance. Something that should be accepted simply because the words are said.

Does anyone have an easy time accepting "I'm sorry's?"

Asking for the gift of someone's forgiveness is different, don't you think? Saying, "Please forgive me" is so different from "I'm sorry." It's riskier because you might be refused and then what?

"I must vanish to... Know Who {You} Are..."

You know what I think of when I read that? I wonder about how "present" someone is while conversing with another. Does that make sense? ... Are they listening to me? ... Am I listening to them? Or are we choreographing what our next words of depth and profundity are going to be? I will try to vanish so I can see others today, so I can be present for someone besides myself.

Thank you
Kristina
