How Beautiful is the Night?

How Beautiful is the Night?

A Poem by Leigh

How beautiful is the Night?

And how little it supposes

At dusk its flowers come out

In beds of quiet and colourless roses

The moon goddess rises high and

An army of stars surround her

While the Earth is at bed

With a violet blanket around her

How giving is the night?

And how rich it is in bounty

Giving lovers a chance to meet

From city hall to rural county

To secret gardens they go

Their eyes black and rounded

Gently kissing and holding hands

To be left alone, unhounded

How peaceful is the night?

With its unmapped dark enclosure

Leaving the eyes to roam around

With no fear of overexposure

‘Tender is the night’

Say Keats and Fitzgerald

But too soon the morning comes

With its new light to herald

A wise person can see the beauty in a night. Make it last and be worthwhile. I enjoyed your description of the romance and the beauty of the night and the great possibilities. Thank you for the amazing poem.

'How Beautiful is the Night?'
Leigh,
To be engulfed within your own feeling of Night's beauty was a joy to read. Yes, this time of life is very different from daytime and your poem points that out nicely. I enjoyed the walk along the different places and feelings. Lovely and inspiring to read. Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you very much
This has the feel of a period piece Leigh and it expresses the feelings of night so well. There is something relaxing about those quiet and colourless roses.

This is a very old world write, lovely and controlled with a gentle rhyme. Nicely done.
