A children's poem

A Poem by Leonard Birch
"

A poem of Mitch the fly and Ned the naughty mouse. Enjoy

"

CHEESE.

Mitch the fly
had found some cheese,
 on a dinner plate.
He called for Ned, the naughty mouse,
who was always running late.

His favourite food
was blue vein cheese,
which smelt like dirty socks.
Today was only Edam cheese,
somewhat as hard as rocks.

“Don’t eat it all”
Said Mitch the fly,
“I am hungry too.
I only need a little piece,
the rest is all for you”.

But Ned the mouse
heard not a word,
and began to nibble and munch.
And soon the dinner plate was gone,
and so was Mitch’s lunch.

“I thought you were a real
Good friend”?
Mitch said, to Ned the mouse”?
“I am, I am”, he said real loud,
And ran into his house.

Late that day,
he realised,
how hungry Mitch would be.
And opened up the pantry door,
to see what he could see.

There before him
was a rack,
that held a loaf of bread.
He got it out and called for Mitch,
Who flew onto his head.

“This is, for you
my dearest friend,
for all the good you’ve done.
I love you heaps and know that you
will always be number one”.

This is great. I love the message in the poem. This has a great rhythm and tells a good story. I can definitely see reading this aloud to children.
