You Win

You win

Every night I go to bed,
my dreams are of only you,
 yet it’s been, some twelve long years,
since you said we’re through.

I still can’t understand your reason,
for saying farewell, goodbye.
Sometimes I have to pinch myself or
just breakdown and cry.

I guess that’s life and many do,
the same as you have done.
But deep, deep down, my treasured friend,
I know that you have won.

From now on, I’ll look ahead,
there’s bound to be another.
But dreams are dreams and reality is;
I’m sure I will not bother.

Why are you not happy with this? It's great! ;)
This poem captures the pain of longing and the hurt of yearning perfectly. This poem is universal; everybody feels such emotion whenever a relationship fails, a family member or friend dies, etc. This poem can be interpreted in so many ways - yet, it is so true. I loved it!

Thank you so much. I wasn't happy with some of the sentence structure. ie. the third line of the 1st and the last line of the poem. I thought it was too personal. But I thank you for your wonderful comments. It has made me feel a lot better.

This, in my opinion, (I'm tempted to say "can only come from a man" but I won't) captures well that point of giving in we are forced to have to deal with...reluctantly, but with strength to move on.
