The Birdcage

The Birdcage

A Poem by Leo Allen
"

Would love feedback. Thanks in advance.

"

I loved her

I loved the way her lost eyes flickered delicately between mine when she looked at me

The way she would hold her shoulders as her hair hugged her in the shower

How she could whisper songs so delicately, so beautifully, that her lips seemed still

But her mind was forever infatuated with another place.

A place she lusted for

To escape to

She became blind of what was in front of her

Rather, what was beneath her, supporting her

She was a bird trapped within a cage

And I, her lone swing

Absolutely lovely. There's a delicacy in what you write and the reader can feel every situation you describe. It's a touchy situation, there's some soft tension in your words. Very beautiful and will keep this poem in mind.
