What Do We Have Left

What Do We Have Left

A Poem by Leonard M.

What do we have left?

Is there anything left?

Do you have to go so soon?

Three questions, and many more that echo in my head

Everywhere I see,

Light that blinds the sharpest eyes

Darkness that binds the greatest minds

Life that lifts the heaviest hearts

Death that drowns the strongest breath

Never allowed the privilege guaranteed to us

Always given the waste of careless decisions,

Fearlessness in the self-tormented battles

Cowardice in the most important wars

A tombstone for the careless soldier,

A judgmental glance at the fearless “criminal”

What is it we fight for?

Why do we drop like flies to our deaths?

Did you have to die so soon?

Did I have to go so soon?
