In a Strange Land

In a Strange Land

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

About a place I wasn`t born in.

"
I am moving on an unwatched stage.
Clown`s mouth gobbing at silence,
open,shut,open,shut.
Peeking birdlike round my door,
I daily change the positions of my body,
in the way it is expected to be done.
Three square meals,bovine style.
I rubberneck big events,
curious as to the insides of people.

This is probably not my place.
I have been washed here like a saline branch.
And I`m dreadfully sorry, I do seem to have
misplaced the ground on which I once stood.
A child who chose the wrong parents.

An extended metaphor, which I must admit, I usually am not a fan of, but is put off successfully, more or less.

Saline branch is probably the most pausing of the lines. Something life giving while life sapping simultaneously.

The last line no doubt steers the reader to the "subtext" but really, it's all an enigma anyways.

I felt the performance unfold with each and every written word. Very unique. I'm glad to see some original creativity here. I felt sorry for this person that was up on stage...so vulnerable, so confused; just like a child. The metaphors are both brilliant and appropriate. I felt the emotion...I could see this strange land of confusion.

There is a difference between being and belonging... I think we all feel out of place at some point in our lives. Very creatively expressed.
