Buxtehude and Rain

Buxtehude and Rain

A Poem by Leslie Philibert
"

Buxtehude composed church music

"
Broken chords forced through a sodden door,
a church fallen in standing water, as if

derailed, silent watchers before broken wheels
and piston steam, thrilled and waiting

for a hand to turn out the lights,
a half round face behind the door spending

a blessing, a saint nodding over a job well done,
the crucifix over the door lost in darkening.

This is unsettling as well as crystal clear, if that makes sense :)
All leaves an ominous yet sedating atmosphere, the description here is brilliant xoxo

Though portrayed in vintage terms, seems like the state of many modern churches.
Stagnant water certainly makes for putrid--and, perhaps, unavailing--baptisms. "...the crucifix over the door lost in darkening" bothers me greatly.
Strikes me as a rather dark piece.

An ode to degradation. A haunting image.

"a saint nodding over a job well done, " I really like the imagery, and the slightly broken rhythm.
