Lost

Lost

A Poem by Alexa Tarvid

I get so lost sometimes,
My focus shifts from topic to mind,
The banging can get so loud in this world,
It drowns out the beauty
Like the buzz of the wings of a hummingbird,

I do not wish to miss that sound,
I do not wish to lose myself,

My words,
My words,
They are who I am,
They make up my poem,

When I get lost,
I find myself in this place,
This place of my poetry,

I remember those words
That sound,
I remember those crashing waves
and that sparrow I wrote about,

My words,
My words,
I find myself in them,
And when I get lost I come back to them,
To remember that hummingbird and its wings,
To remember that pain
And that grief,

In my words I find my tears and laughter,
I find my wounds and my jokester,
And when I begin to forget,
When the world becomes louder than those thoughts,

I come back here,
I come back to my poetry,
Because I do not wish to lose myself,
I can get so lost sometimes,
And the world can get so loud.
