Chasing Ghosts

When life continues to move on, we can be haunted by those that different paths and futures leave behind.

I am chasing ghosts,
So many faces,
Spread between past,
Present,
And future,

Which ones are meant for me now?
The ones I can touch,
The ones that respond,

But I am still chasing these ghosts,
Trapped between the past and the future,
He loves me not,
Loves me no more,
But I still reach out,
My hands falling through the memory,

We used to talk about everything,
But she is not here anymore,
Her life has taken her away from mine,
And yet I can still hear her whispers of comfort,
Never truly grasping the solid presence of her company,

They haunt me,
Those that let go,
And those I left behind,
Life seems to have spread us so thin,
A different corner of the world,
A distant place in a faraway land,

I am chasing ghosts,
His sweet touch,
Her warm words,
I seem to be trapped,
Never truly separating the faces,
The ones meant for me now
And the ones that left me behind,

Maybe if life was different,
Maybe if I was different
Maybe if my path winded differently,
He would want me,
And she would have kept in touch,

But life is forever changing,
And I am left trapped between different times and lives,
What if's and mixed memories of all kinds,
I am... chasing ghosts,
Each one a different life
Different decision
Different soul,

They surround me,
Their company set in sorrow,
Disbelief and doubt,
Maybe one day I will live without their company,
To live within the present and the future only,
But these ghosts I am chasing,
They each have a part of me,

And what I fear most about their presence
Is if my mind sets them free...
There will be nothing left of me.
