Close to My Soul

Close to My Soul

A Poem by Alexa Tarvid

My soul is cold,
Drenched in the tears
Of this raging storm,
The tree that once protected it,
The tree that kept it dry and warm,
Was brought down in seconds
By the lightening
Of this raging storm,

It shivers,
Can't you see?
When my eyes flicker
When you look right at me,

But it is just for a little while,
So I'll hold God's words close to my soul,
I'll draw warmth from the promise
That He'll never let me go,
He'll never leave me alone,

This terrible
Raging storm
Has soaked me down to my soul,
It's cold for right now,
But it won't be for long,

Because even deeper than
This sheet of ice rain
Is the promise God made me
Before my mother gave me a name,

"Do not be afraid,"
He whispers,
"For I'll never let go,
I'll never leave you alone,
I'll do whatever it takes
To bring you home,"

And I smile,
Amidst this raging storm,
For not even the strongest bolt of lightening,
Not even the loudest growl of thunder,
No matter how hard the rain comes down,
Nothing can separate me from His love,

"Do not be afraid..."
He whispers,
"I'll never let you go."
