Alone

Alone

A Poem by Gabrielle E. Flinn

When you're alone, what do you do?
When you're alone, what do you do to you?
Does pain ever cross your mind?
Does death give you it's time?

When your only company is yourself,
And no one really worries about your health,
As you walk down the hallway,
No one really makes your day.

Your heart throbs painfully in your chest,
Tears threaten to leak out and splash on your test,
No one to help or to even save you,
I mean who would want too? Who?

Save your tears,
Hide your fears.
No one can hurt you that badly.
That was a joke, sadly...

While you wait for one person to hold out their hand,
You hold back against a simple-minded demand.
How can you trust them not to let you fall?
How could someone make you feel so small?

Without thinking, your hand grabs their's.
They betray your trust by letting go, and you fall down the stairs...
When people ask, "Why are you all alone?"
I reply with a simple, "There is no one to trust to take me home."

Sometimes... You just feel alone. I do but mine comes with a reason. I don't trust anyone.
