Paying my Dues

Paying my Dues

A Poem by Riv

Maybe I didn’t manage to catch the time that had passed.

My mind was one that took hold of various thoughts,

struggling to put them into the limelight of life.

Secrets,

and the pain it broughts,

then again I was never good at showing colors.

My life was full of making it fake,

and saying substantial words when I was left blank minded in uncomfortable maybe even terrifying situations.

Maybe I was afraid of the future,

I knew for certain I was afraid of change.

Yet somehow,

when I stood next to her I felt at ease.

Even as I tried to fix my previous mistakes,

if you’d look upon them.

The only way to fix the things you have done was to do them yourselves.

Otherwise you could find yourself losing something precious,

because you never payed them your due’s in the first place.

Relationships are hard work, but I suppose in the end they are worth it in your life-time.

I do understand the poetry.
"Maybe I was afraid of the future,
I knew for certain I was afraid of change. "
I dislike change. Fear of failure must be overcome. Life is twist and turns. If we fail. Must get-up and go forward. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry. Made me think this early morning.

This is sooooo true. Relationships are very tricky and touchy things, they need constant time and maintenance to make them work. And that goes for any type of relationship as well. You make a very good point here that even though you may feel like your going through hell, the end result will leave you proud that you made it that far. Love this one :)

Limno, Toward the end of the write you switch points of view in your wording (going from, "when I stood next to HER," to "fix MY previous mistakes," ending with "...if YOU'D look upon them.") The reason I am pointing these discrepancies out is that I have seen SO MUCH BETTER from you recently. It's easy, especially when you feel you are on a creative roll, to get a bit careless in your writing. This isn't your best work, Limno, and I can say that because I'VE SEEN your best. take care...dan

I believe in paying your dues and fixing my errors myself. This builds character! Character is a step towards Integrity!

Hi! :) Hmmm.. The poem didn't feel that smooth when you say it aloud, so maybe rearrange the line cuts and reword some parts? But overall, I like the essence of the poem; it is important to put effort into your relationships.

"and the pain it broughts," to "and the pain it brought,"
Life and relationships are what seem to make the world go round. Interesting look within your mind and your relationships. Nice write.
