Should Have Learned to FlyA Poem by Lindsay
I see the kicking birds dash loudly
Through branches left haphazard
Crashing leaves and crunching bark
Left to their own devices.
While snakes and rodents gather ‘round
Poison dripping, missing by inches
Run along, undiscovered wings
Storm is raging forth.
Take the harsh route, most widely traveled
Bumping, squawking amongst the others
All alone with teeth at heels
Gasping, fighting, failing, dying.
Lie down this endless well
Survey the sky as eagles soar unabashed.
Finally swoop, take notice.
Looking down fierce noses and sharp beaks
Utter quite judgmentally
“Should have learned to fly, little ones.”
“Should have learned to fly.”
