A Poem by Elisabeth
"

There are two sides to every story.

"

4:00am

She is praying to a god you don’t believe in

Don’t be jealous

Of the breath that leaves her body

She is trying to save your soul.

You don’t tell her that your soul no longer belongs to you

It is not hers to save

When you kiss her,

Let her feel what burns inside of you.

Souls are useless.

Fires are better.

4:00pm

Don’t tell him why you are praying.

He thinks that you are trying to save his soul.

You know that his soul no longer belongs to him.

You pray to save your own.

Jealous kisses rain down upon your body from his swollen lips

They burn your skin like embers from a dying fire

You don’t mind

Your body is a temple.

Don’t fear him as he worships you.

Interesting how you contrasted the time differential into focus. It kicked the emotion into overdrive. Free verse is an awesome style you exuded well here.

Oh, and by the way, I love ducks. Raised two of them when they were abandoned until they could fly on their own.

Welcome to the WC, Elisabeth!
