The Soul

The Soul

A Poem by Color of the Iris

It's a perfection that the soul initially yearns for
But instead, it's left blinded in the form of an only conscience
Sleeping inside a small, weak, and almost helpless body

With a short span of time, in which most call a life
The body can only live so long, though the soul can never die
But as long as it remains on earth, it shall never be content

The soul is a symbol of freedom, as well as confinement
You would think of happiness when you hear of the soul
But actually when thought through, it's very painful

A wonderful creature, locked away in a bone cage
Though it shows to you in appearance, the soul can never age
And is cursed to be your shadow until the day you die

The soul is the breath of your only conscience
And is the pulse of your mental, and emotional heart
You don't know it physically, because you can't feel it most times

But it is with your soul, that your mind works with your heart
Without this wonderful, and magnificent combination
Life would have no beginning for itself as we all can speak it now

What a creative way to think of it! I never would've thought of it that way, as the soul being trapped and pained, but it definitely makes sense! I love the insight on this, and the way it's written. Like always, such an amazing poem. (:

Thought provoking...this may start a long dialect, but in essence, to me, this is very close of what I believe to be the case.
