God, Bless our Homeland

God, Bless our Homeland

A Poem by Joseph Eluzai
"

On the eve of South Sudan's Independence, July 9 2011.......

"

God bless our dear homeland

Lift us up with your mighty hand

Over and above our solemn history

With song and dance to tell the story of victory!

Of our struggle and its bitter tears

For our most enduring goal of many years

To live under the sun with dignity

And draw out the gifts of our land with equality

Bringing peace and freedom to all

In our lovely country so strong and tall

We honor our heroes in war and peace

And remember them in our hearts like a kiss!

Prepared are we to fight to the bitter end

The flame they have lighted to defend

We will look long and hard into the future

And make leaps of faith for our people & culture

South Sudan is the land of rivers and mountains

Evergreen, full of ebony, fish and grains

With a noble and able people wide and far

Holding the cherished flag with the guiding star!

As we hold to the beauty of our past

And build ourselves to last

May great success attend us without discord

To live and die in accord

For we are one in cause and spirit

To serve our land and people is our merit!

God bless our dear homeland

Lift us up with your mighty hand!
