Assault

For the longest time 

I was in agony 

never understanding 

why the people I loved the most 

would always end up hurting me 

I blamed it all on myself 

because that way 

I would never ask 

for anyones help

if it was my fault, 

then somehow that was better 

than accepting the fact

I was being attacked 

When you've been told your whole life 

you've deserved everything 

the more you deny it

when the truth starts surfacing 

but when you realize 

it was never really your fault 

is when you start to understand 

it was really assault.
