Goodbyes

Goodbyes

A Poem by Lynette
"

I was given an exercise to write about the lawn not mown so I just made up this poem

"

GOODBYES

A woman sits upon her chair,

the tears stream down her cheeks.

About the lawn, she doesn’t care,

it’s not been mown for weeks.

A distant look comes on her face

and fear shows in her eyes.

Upon the page, her fingers trace

the words of his goodbye.

She thinks of how they both first met

and how this bond was formed

A stubborn lad; his mind was set;

She let him mow the lawn.

Outside his house, a sign now stands,

a symbol of her grief.

No longer does he lend a hand;

“for sale”, this sign is brief.

The scent of roses on the breeze,

the wind chimes, they re-sound.

As she recalls her memories

the page falls to the ground.

This woman, on her chair sits prone,

a smile upon her face;

She doesn’t see the lawn’s not mown,

Her soul’s some other place.
