A little something brought to me by the familiar surroundings of a British pub after some years away.

London pub, just like any other,

But the first in six months, there's something special.

A flash of the familiar after time away.

The banter, the batter, the beer, the aprehension that's disappeared

Like the isolation made to dissolve by cheeky smile and mother tongue.

Though 24 hours might change it all again, I'm not sure

The last 24 months were even there.

Perhaps just warm recollections that prick behind the eye,

As others have.

It feels as if I was never gone.

Is this the betrayal of two years' unspoken friendship?

Or is it just life...?
