Square patch of blue

Square patch of blue

A Poem by Luke Kadinopoulos
"

For Ali - a true friend.

"
Layers of air,
Strata of space
In that square patch of blue.

Chalk lines of contrails
Gradually smudged by invisible zephyrs.

Flashes of swift silver
Strike the eye, then bank, then gone.

Hunched old fisherman
Lumbering unencumbered from pool to pool.

Wing crack, explosion
Then glide serenely across the view.

Pollen gatherer, busy
Humming through the gold-dusted forest.

Almost there, lady larva
Making her endless terra cotta rounds.

Foundation level, friendship
Staring up at the underside of floral brilliance.
Sharing a caffeine-laden (slightly skuzzy) thought-free moment
(We have the time and space)
On the balcony of that square patch of blue.
(Mate!)
