August Rain

August Rain

A Poem by Kenneth Compton
"

What is the definition of insanity?

"

With August came the rain

A purifying deluge that washed all the sins of this earth

Into the gutters, to be sifted through by the homeless

Looking for lost trinkets

Or to be hauled off by paid employees of this proud city

To be set upon by geocachers, looking to find god knows what for some dumbass reason

Or to collect and fester, breeding wounds and vermin in equal parts

With August came the rain

It took this dusty bowl and made it clean

And in an ever perplexing fit of insanity

A man mucks it all up again, looking for reason

Looking for gold

Looking for god

Or just a thing to eat soup out of

With August came the rain

And with a fresh start, a clean set of eyes

I set to slinging the sewage of my heart upon it

Destroying the purity of a brand new beginning

And dooming mankind to another turn on the wheel

By missing the drought.

There have been so many fresh starts offered to the world but those with greedy hearts and zealous intentions always find a way to muck it up. All we can do is hope but with consummate care. Your friend in words, Pete

Kenneth, this was so well written. I liked the repetitive lines to open the verses and the ending which seems to start the entire process over again. Very cool my friend.
