in a poem anything is possible

here
in the privacy of a poem
no need to split infinitives
sibilants soothe in other venues
but here my body recognizes the terror
              bids it good day
                      kisses it good night
because here
i am a valiant footslogger
plodding through a life of reality
knowing words will shield
the underbelly of my so called identity

of course
maybe not through tomorrow
and certainly not next week
just here

in the privacy of a poem

The most affecting poetry for me is when someone does lay it all on the line, sometimes our words do get lost in translation, but that's fine too. Once you put it out there, your soft underbelly is exposed, that's what makes us different as poets I think, we yearn for that connection, even in the 'privacy of a poem'...great read as always Lydie!

Yes, I think we do hide behind our words at times and yet I have read such poems here where hearts are laid bare and my heart squeezes at the anguish I read. However we write, it is an outpouring of our emotions(sometimes hidden, others not) as we paint our own images of lie and what it throws at us.
Very thought provoking and awesome use of your talent!

I think as poets we may hide behind the words from time to time, putting it all out there for anyone to read can be a bit scary. However, personally I have found it very healing to let it all out regardless of the outcome.

I love the way you write and the question you pose here is very interesting. I hope my poetry actually helps me show who l am vs. Hiding the real me. Great poem. Trace

I think it does, Trace....and I like the guy I call "friend"! :) Thanks for the review. Lydi**
I look at all the poems I have written as my little children. Sometimes I love them. Sometimes I love
them to leave me alone..Sometimes I disappear from them, and sometimes the man (dana) deals with
all the suggestive melodramatic intrigue and action they cause me. I don't hide behind them, it's more
like we find all of life's secret places and hide there together...

tremendous write.

We morph into our work sometimes. thanks for the great review, Dana. Have a good evening. Lydi**
Everyone hides behind something - the musician hides behind his instrument, the athlete behind the ball... we are all so much more than these actions, but they come to define us nonetheless, and we embrace that. Makes it easier to accept our quirks... This is a great piece, Lydi.

True enough....though I don't know that song, sorry.
this is delightfully ironic...in ways we hide behind metaphors, apostrophe, personification...but then our poems are us...and they expose those deep feelings hidden inside, and publicize them so others can read and relate...

love it.
