the moon cries

the moon cries

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

memories envelop me at times..how i miss them

"

artwork by Steve Zazenski of allthatart on etsy.com

the immense quiet of morning

is interrupted only by the house creaking

through the white space of

not quite asleep

not quite awake

snippets of memory

from what seems like another lifetime

begin to play

such daredevils they are

balancing on the tightrope of emotion

my mind jumps from one place to another

the newspaper is delivered

the unmowed grass is high

what’s for dinner?

tease-taunt

he started it-no she did

tag you’re it

watch me run faster than the butterflies

my sandcastle is taller than yours

soon the whole day has vanished

eaten by those memories

and in the immense quiet of a starry night

the moon cries

What an incredible piece of writing, Lydi....the whole poem flashed past me like those snapshots of memories...evoking an achingly beautiful, bittersweet wistfulness. it is often in the 'immense quiet' of mornings and starry nights that we find ourselves soaked in fond memories...and you capture the inexpressible like a dream, my friend. just loved this one.

what a delightfully taunting, haunting read. very relatable and filled with emotion. fast paced much like the day rushing past you when lost to broken memories

How we long for our childhood with it's innocence and lack of serious responsibility and how we mourn the passing of the days as we approach the shortening of the days and the lengthening of shadows.

You are quite welcome..Sara
Children grow up all to quickly and move on to have their own lives but those indelible memories, precious moments and impressions they made when the family were all together are etched deep in the psyche for ever!

A poignant reminisce of harmonious days now past!

powerful. the jumping of scenes really plays with my mind, i love it. Makes me feel like im flitting through your memories. And I find the ending, the moon cries, really overwhelming. It feels to me like you have lost somebody/people dear to you. Thank you for sharing your precious memories in such a beautiful way.

oh...yeah. this is stellar, both figuratively and physically. the jumpiness of your images bleed together in such a way that, like William mentioned, it feels like the scene unfolds much like it does when we try to conjure memories and hold onto them. great images, the form is EVERYTHING here. one suggestion (this is personal opinion, not based on anything intelligent) that I have is switching the spacing of the fourth and fifth lines, or even adding empty space in between a couple of the individual words; I feel like this would augment the sensation described (in limbo between dreams and reality) in a way that would impact a little stronger than it currently does, which is already incredibly strong. Love this poem, adding to my favorites. well penned, and thank you so much for sharing!!!
