My Soft Place

My Soft Place

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by Emma Uber

You are my soft place to land
a spirited buoyant oasis
to warm my lukewarm spunk

Bouncing down
the rutted highway of life
I stand on tiptoe
to see the love in your eyes
and it seems you are always there
dancing me out of the humdrum
a bolt of satin unwinding itself
around my heart...

in your poetry and your life, I don't see any "lukewarmness", nope, not one ounce.. and to have someone that is like a "bolt of satin unwinding itself around my heart", well, how could there even be a whisper of "humdrum"??? I can see you two dancing Lydi... and I think that is oh so "nice", the poem too!! ;0)

there are those who are intimidated by that sass, and there are those that inspire it, nurture it, and appreciate it.. they help us get that "pep back in our step" so to speak.. they realize when something is wrong and know what we need to get back to where we should be... they "see" us, "know" us.. to be able to look into their eyes and see our true selves reflected back and the pure love and affection staring back at us is a feeling that is beyond comparison.. they are our "rock" when needed, but also that warm, fuzzy place that we want to get lost in... the soft place that minimizes those bruises from all the bumps and ruts in the road of life that want to knock us down and hold us back... The ending is breathtakingly beautiful.. as always you have my soul smiling and my heart in awe of such stunning talent.. I loved this..

Your words are like a warm embrace Lydikey...everyone needs a safe place to fall. As always, you hit the sweet spot my friend.

Thank you, Lizardo. Lydi**
The Jersey girl in you will never die,
yet you allow the one you love to hold you close
and together you find your way through life.

Simple, sweet surrender
without compromise.

Love this.
