everything has its time

everything has its time

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by wendy vanselow courtesy of etsy.com

everything has its time
an expiration date after which it is no longer viable
i mean night is eaten by the dawn
and it is gone..vanished
waves disappear into the sand
never to be seen again
yet in my catacombs of thought
you are there
and, damn it, seeing you just one more time
still tops the wish list of my dreams
it’s as if space and time have betrayed me
or was it you?
the past hugs while the future taunts
everything has its time
perhaps “someday” is your time

We always think we have time ... to call next week, to go out to lunch, to give or get that special hug. We may not always have that precious time. Time is fleeting and gone in an instant. You have done a very good job at portraying that sentiment!

Indeed, we are not promised anything. We have to enjoy every second. Thank you, Melissa. lydi**

Lydi, it is as though you can read my thoughts...and again, you have touched a special place in my heart.

Everything has its time, and time is the master of all of our memories. The sands keep shifting and we hope but for a glimpse of the evading dream. May the future find you tangled :)

Thanks so much. I always appreciate your reviews. Lydi**
My goodness Lyd, last week you wrote about reaching writers block. This poem is so so good I do not know how to review it, you surprise your audience with the ending, it is unexpected as I expected something like if that person that exists in your thoughts somehow he comes and goes and got surprised that he existed a long time ago..jeez, what am I saying. I hope you get me though, this one has jazzed me.

I always love your reviews, Cassie. Thank you so much. Lydi*
A memory is the one thing that defies space and time - that is so very true, Lydi... it is hard to move forward sometimes when those memories refuse to let us go...love the analogies here and the artwork, as always, is so spot on...

To me, the art is part of the package and I enjoy finding an appropriate painting or photo to go wit.. read more
in the Mayan cosmology space and time were inevitably intertwined. They thought that celestial events
were indicative of communication with the Gods. And although it's maddening to think of time
as a controlled device, when we place it in the context of things ending and beginning like dreams
or hugs or even love, it makes more sense today than it ever could to a lost civilization. Being
homosapien means we can think through the context of time and represent our surroundings
independent of ourselves. It's called art. And with this definition, poetry is the greatest betrayer of
space ever invented.

You're a love poet Lydi. An honorable title to hold and one which you never betray. Wonderful write dear friend.

Lydi, who said, "we are the stuff that dreams are made of"? Can't remember. So fitting here. Dreams, memories, hopes, wishes...it's all...everything. A very touching read, my dear poet :)

I'm sure you're right lydi :) was my pleasure
i like all the analogies presented here...everything does have its time...and you express it with graceful wording...but i especially like one line:

"the past hugs while the future taunts"

and i kind of feel that...the past, as far as the old days, the sixties, still hug me...but the future seems quite daunting.
