we remain

we remain

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

forever friends may go in different directions in life, but a connection remains

"

the wall of sand inches closer on one side

the mighty ocean on the other

while in the language of repetition we walk

and the waves roll

                   gently, steadily, unstoppingly

we remember…or do we?

which one of us has wandered off the sandy path?

time pushed our hearts and minds ahead an hour

but not to save daylight

the stale breath of history eats our words

and common ground erodes with each passing year

yet somehow we remain forever

friends

If the bond is strong then distance situation problems nothing matter. In the end the bonds forged with friends running strong is what matters most. As usual beautifully written the flow sublime, a lot of imagery invoked and above all the brevity of this write enhances the impact. Thank you for sharing

It doesn't make sense that this shoreline always remains as it gets washed away time and time again.
Is a fascinating thought.

wow...lyd, your words, poems have a way of getting out the word (wow) after every read. I relate to this, I have more than fifteen year old friendships and still going strong, this is why i wrote i am a rich girl

And we are rich because of our friends....no doubt about it. Thank you so much, Cassie. Lydi**
This seems to be a little different than the poems of yours I've read so far, in that it has a more direct message, but also with many of your amazingly vivid sensory observations, all along the way. This may be a weirdness of mine, but I'd like to see "forever friends" on the same line (last line), becuz it just feels like it belongs together. I especially like the tentative tone to this . . . I can actually feel the slippage as the narrator is both letting go & hanging on. Thanks for sharing!

I have a couple of friends like this. It is a unique love -- chosen, not forced upon us -- we can go years without talking very much, and then connect up again and the gap that was never there is filled in again.:) This made me smile.

Lydi a beautiful write
i came to Canada and i didnt know
but all my childhood friends live all over the country
and we all have our own life
but we get together in one room
and our love for one another
the walls speak out
i known these people since i was 14 ..... some before that

Love this piece .... close to the heart

a deep acceptance and understanding between two people - real friendship that grows and thrives even in silence - a deep, introspective write
