sprinkles of springtime

sprinkles of springtime

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

april....always a reflective month for me

"

artwork by emma uber

on a balmy friday afternoon

the sky paints the isolated water of the lake

          soft ripples of blue-green-lilac

pulling my thoughts along an unbidden path

strewn with burgeoning blossoms of thought

i drink from the chalice of happenstance

slightly melancholic

                    or is that melodramatic

melodies begin to play

holding hands with march, a new month peeks around the corner

this one a mere whisper on the lips of a long ago april

but soon enough sprinkles of springtime tempt me

a butterfly winks at me

i blow bubbles of hope into the future

amazingly,  the sky continues to paint the water

pretending not to notice

" ... i drink from the chalice of happenstance " . Like, wow ! I always love your writing (You probably have figured that out by now) but that line is one that just hit the perfect chord with me. Lots of imagery, a little perfectly placed alliteration ... Yeah, you are on top of your game. Kudos. ~James

A fantastic ending to a marvelous poem

"I blow bubbles of hope into the future
amazingly, the sky continues to paint the water
pretending not to notice"

The imagery is sublime, it captivated my astonished mind.

You are welcome.
Your words seem to caress the spring from a still lingering winter's edge. There are reflective glimpses of color and light life so wondrous starting to rise from the shadows of the past. Beautifully bittersweet.

we don't have springtime here in the philippines - but i know what spring must be like a rebirth of people and things, of the world, itself - your poem took me into an idyllic place where i could think and be myself, completely :)

I notice your love for Friday ^^ I notice your love for April ^^ Is there a special meaning behind both these things? I love the way you paint pictures here once again . Love the alliterations produced here and it's without doubt that you enjoy your love affair with poetry whenever it began and has never stopped and will never stop. I enjoyed reading your write as usual ^^ thank you for sharing ^^

dear Lydi, lavender blue promises of love
float on the lake and bubbles of hope fly
like butterflies... Spring fever is in the air
as blossoms tickle our fancy. April is the
birthday of blessings. Cherry blossom
kisses adorn our hair as foxes lay
in their lair. Lydi, your poetry has
awakened the bursting buds of new birth.

And you and I will celebrate this month, dear Pat! Thank you very much for your review. Lydi**
The Ides of March have passed and April arrives with its gift of that which preludes the lovely moments of Spring and Summer as you so beautifully express with thoughts of butterfly winks, blowing bubbles, melodies playing in the breeze. It may have begun on a balmy Friday afternoon but it is lovely enough to zap us into a sunshine filled day with just enough of the wonderful pleasures of life to want yet another day, and another, and another to come!
You also seem to be reminiscing about a season of past time as you mention the whisper on the lips of a long ago April...........when something special must have happened to stay in your memory until today! The girl's expression also lends to wishful thinking. So maybe, just maybe??

Thank you so much for your lovely review, Sheila. Lydi**
i think it is melodramatic...and those melodies of spring get us in that mood...time to put the drama down on paper, it is poetry month...the sky lives for now...and paints pictures for the day..even as we think into the future, and wonder what kind of formation the clouds will make tomorrow.
