A Poem by Lydia Shutter

long ago
you were the hope that kept me believing
like the last ripple of a mighty wave
the buoyant "just maybe"
and the spark that kept my flame alive
maybe it's strange
but on this november day
the warm sand reminded me
and when a white-foamed wave kissed my toes
i smiled....pretending it was you

What a gently passionate setting you've contrived, Lydi, tis absolutely sighhhhh-worthy. Not surprisingly, it seems to be a delightful and infinite memory for you. Would you believe I crinkled my toes when i read your penultimate line! There can sometimes be such a special and precious feel about 'just maybe'.

you've surely brought sand, sea and sentimentality together. never know when or where remembrances will come upon us - this one coming in a wave. thanks for the reminder from 'long ago' ... :)

Dreamy, memory-filled reminding of the lovely past with person and events. There is a longing in your mind and wandering in your soul. Lovely to read and enjoy. Soothing to the feelings...

thanks for sharing this beautiful moment with us Lydia .. the mood enticed, brought me to read it several times ;) i love this line especially .. "the buoyant "just maybe"" ..i think it is packed with many layers .. and i think your closing is Divine .. it smacks of maturity, forgiveness, fortitude and peace ... at peace with something that once was wonderful, ended (for whatever reason),was painful then resolved and now able to remember all the good parts ... i know it is the warm sand that is the trigger but the mention of November touches my own memories ..i (honest) just sent an e-mail to my 4 children because once again when October comes and goes I come to realize the reason I am so thoughtful of their Mother .. she died many years ago in October and we have talked about how without consciously knowing ... we all start to feel a little sad .. and our thoughts turn to her ... i relate big time to your poem ... no thought at all about moving, leaving out or changing a thing ... nice one says i! so glad i stopped this morning ;)

I can imagine being on the beach at dusk when the Tide is enforce and I see at a distance a Lighthouse... I feel the hope and memory of a wave 🌊 that flows over my soul and into my heart. Amen... Pat
