that's okay

that's okay

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

pieces of home float by my psyche
on a day when even the cotton candy clouds
are not sweet enough for me
i reach beyond the fringe
looking for....not sure what....waldo perhaps?
maybe for the poem that will explain it all
finally i realize
the neutrons and atoms of unfinished dreams
are the invisible threads that sew me together
just like popeye - i yam who i yam
and really, that's okay

I love this! I find that your attitude is a great inspiration for others who have not yet developed the life habit of being who they are (without apology) in their writing, plagued by self-doubts, etc. In my trajectory, when I tried to write in a way that would be widely acceptable, I wasn't interesting to anyone. Then I realized I'm too weird to have a mass appeal, so I just started having fun without thinking about whatever the response, if any. More people are interested in my writing when I am just my uninhibited self. This is true in the broader sense of life, as well, which is the message your spirited poem gets across with spunk (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You are reaching that understanding, and didn't even need a can of spinach...just your pen.
I have been doing this for 40 years and still can't seem to write the poem that even gets close to explaining who i am, why i write...or why i have a sweet tooth for cotton candy clouds and leaves falling in autumn.
great write, dear friend.
