Caged Heart

Caged Heart

A Poem by MOON

It did not matter my voice had no sound

You took love's rope and around me you wound

You captured my heart with a serpent sting

Taught me the caged bird’s song and how to sing

Then you placed all your sorrows on my face

All you loved about me you laid to waste

So I could be emptied of who I am

Looked at me said all I was, was a sham

Then still you had to deal just one more card

That you would grant me like a piercing dart

On a dawn full of promise you would go

That was your last hurrah your final blow

Obsession still my iron fisted glove

Days still I am imprisoned by your love

They cage the bird. They tell it that it does not deserve freedom. They make the bird believe it deserves its fate. They clip the birds wings so that it can never escape. The tell the bird to sing out for their amusement. And the worst part, they manipulate the birds mind to make them think it was their choice. Then they leave and go about their life and tell you to fly. But how can the bird ever really escape until it grows new wings? It can't. It takes a long time to heal from that. Many days are spent in that prison waiting.

I have been in that cage. It is not a place I would wish upon anyone. Personally, this poem speaks to me very deeply. You have done a masterful job of giving a voice to a hurting bird. Wonderful work, dear Moon.

A lovely, sad write written in an easy flowing method that leaves a soft feel to the read.
Your thoughts are very true. We all have our cages. Some are filled by us and some we have filled. An excellent poem.

Many thanks.
A great expression of the obsessive quality of love. I particularly liked the description of the winding of the rope.

Thank you so much John!
The way we affect other people in our lives can be profound though we may not know it. Some may change their thinking as a result. Some memories and feelings may last years. And some may never care what they've done at all. Another good write Moon.

my pleasure
I felt that this was a somewhat mystical and retrospective tribute, riddled with mystery and romance, quite a unique verse

all will be well inshallah
So eloquently written, Moon. I hesitate to reply as I can relate all too well to the message. Sometimes I feel like the caged bird, other times I wonder if I was thought to be the one clipping wings without realizing it ... it is a situation I feel I will never be given the opportunity to fully understand. Or I may be delusional and they've happily gone about life without another thought to me. A paradox of such magnitude.
You're writing touched deeply. Wonderful writing, my dear friend.
