Self Destruction

Self Destruction

A Poem by AmeliaGerhardt

I watched in awe
as the flames danced
around us
almost as beautiful as
you were.
You decided to leave while
my attention was kept
by the roaring reds and oranges,
and the fire starting to die
without your oxygen
feeding her.
I sat in the ashes with
the few embers that remained
But it didn't take long
for my tears to put
those out, too.
