The Lonely Unicorn

The Lonely Unicorn

A Poem by Margaret Barton-Wahl
"

This is another in the fantasy poems with the Unicorn as a primary character.

"

In cool velvet haze of early morn'

Stood the lonely unicorn.

Without a thread to keep her warm

Nay save for the love she mourn.

The love within her tender heart did fall and was shattered apart.

She did not know from whence to start how to repair love's fragile art.

Love in its simplicity once had seemed so clear to be.

The unicorn's heart was wild and free, her spirit soared to ecstasy.

Now she stands on cold bare ground

Nay a love for to be found.

She sighs away a fallen clown

As velvet haze gathers 'round.

She will sigh and she will cry for many, many years.

To drown her pain in bitter rain,

The flood of lost love's tears.

Your words a metaphorically enhanced with a touching sense of what it means to long in suffering
.. the lonely unicorn has a fantasy aspect drawing the reader to ponder other worlds with an emotional
aspect that ties the thread, weaving a creative blance of love and losing what remains in the heart,
well written and well thought out..the words have a classic sense of tone, which adds to the effect nicely

To drown her pain in the flood of lost love's tears; Simply Beautiful.

A beautiful piece of work in a very archaic style, and very enjoyable to read, the image of a female unicorn is quite strange, probably because I have a notion of them always being male :) but there must be female ones or they wouldn't survive .

"Nay a love for to be found.
She sighs away a fallen clown
As velvet haze gathers 'round."

Are my favourite lines

Interesting

This is really beautiful, lots of lovely description such as the first line "In cool velvet haze of early morn'" =) I really admired how, despite the fact that the lines switch from really long to short, it always manages to flow nicely. The language you use is beautiful as well. Very well done. =)

Reading your work is always a pleasure, and I have to say that this is, of course, no exception.

There are several typos that I'm not entirely sure you noticed, but that hardly dampens the magic that always surrounds your poetry.

Write on.
