Our World Is Changing

Something I wrote a while back while I was with my ex girlfriend

There is nothing more satisfying than walking down the hall hand in hand with your girl. There is nothing more perfect than seeing her smile. While Mikey and Becca practically swallow each others face in the corner, Ella and Elizabeth get looks of disgust for holding hands and showing affection. Our world is cruel. Our world is messed up. Just because we are both female does not mean we do not deserve our love. Our love is new and our love is pure. While Mikey and Becca get praise for being in a relationship, Ella and Elizabeth get glares and scoffs. “It’s not right” they say. “That’s so disgusting” they murmur. I deserve to be able to share my love. As Mikey and Becca go out to dinner they get compliments on how cute of a couple they are. As Ella and Elizabeth go out to dinner people comment on how a ‘girl’s night’ with friends are always fun. People say the world is changing. It is a little at a time. But our world is still cruel. I cannot walk hand in hand with my girlfriend without getting looked at like what we are doing is wrong. However there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. While Mikey and Becca are over in the corner fighting about Mikey’s new ‘friend’ Anna, Ella and Elizabeth are in the sunlight, loving each other unconditionally. It only takes one person to make a difference. One person can turn the world around. Imagine what all of us could do. Our world IS changing. And our world is OURS
