A Hearts Song

There are the birds again,

they were there in the begining, they watched the hours turn.

The unrelenting sun beat its heavy path,

but they sang on, I heard them, did you hear them?

Though I was mute with sweat and nerves,

the skies twinkled on and on with musical chatter.

Life and history unfolded,

and they gave protection in the nub of a gentle wing.

Do you remember that far away window?

Of the light that shone so brightly in day and heart?

Could you take me there? would you take me there?

To hear the music once more.

If only I could...Hang on, you were asking the birds, weren't you? Excuse me m'lady. I saw you sitting on a bench (Forgive me for being the voyeur) with your blond hair, your invisible mind, mute with sweat and nerves - looking fine, but with this secret struggle - and then I heard the birds and I saw the sky, the blue, the tweets going up and down, almost as if they are cavorting with us, or you, or me...or each other. The buzz of an airplane faintly lingered around. The gentle swoosh of the wind blowing the trees filled in the gaps.

I carried on of course, as I am a stranger, but nothing more did I want than to stop, without qualification, and sit beside you.

(Do (you) remember that far away window?)

I recognize the wanting in this one. I stepped outside my door night before last and was overwhelmed with chattering songs. It felt like a place that would be nice to return to. Like these words. . .

I could feel the nervous anticipation of "waiting" as I read this poem. Waiting for the song birds to again return to your heart.
Well done.
