Let Me Go

Let Me Go

A Poem by Dave

                    Let Me Go

Let me forget I ever met you, you with your blue eyes,

with your scraggly hair, you purposefully left unkempt.

Everything about you was wrong, yet you attracted me.

a moth drawn irresistibly to the flame, I came to you.

Despite you, or because of you, desire flared within me.

I reached out and you danced away, laughing out loud.

You stood looking at the fool made of me,

I could do nothing more than wait and be burnt by the flame

Your poem addresses one of love's themes that intrigues me . . . how people seem to feel that another person does not allow him/her to let go. It sounds like a great lament, but we are masters of our own destiny. Other people don't make us do anything. This narrator sounds uppity to me, saying: "everything about you was wrong" -- pretty judgmental -- after all, this narrator made the choice to go there. Another clue: "looking at the fool made of me" -- it's all about pride here. This guy doesn't care about the other person. This guy only cares about his own bruised ego. Nobody is at their best when the heart is breaking, but I don't like this guy. It's good writing when you can create a character that elicits a strong response (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I do understand these words my friend.
"Everything about you was wrong, yet you attracted me.
a moth drawn irresistibly to the flame, I came to you."
The above lines. Been there and the flame can be very tempting. Thank you Dave for sharing the amazing poetry.
