Call Us Women

Call Us Women

A Poem by Mary Bosworth

All you men...
What lies in your fists?

In your eyes,
Tongue,
& Mind?

Your packs of gods
Offer drops of life,
& we women
Carry it,
Bake it
& endure it
Until it becomes
A seed of heaven,

Which we fed with our mouth,
Caressed with our blood,
& heard its bubbling songs
of life
Through our skin.

Your bellies,
Which lounge gods of Men,
Of changing passion
& rage,

Can never churn
The weight of a shell
Into a breathing being as powerful
As yourself.

It was bestowed upon us,
Because to be a man
Is to convey strength,

But to be a woman,
Is to foster
& convey this and more
On a separate measure and ourselves,
& at times, on you.

So, call us women,
& remember who we are.

Fertility of nature, and in particular, women, has always been the ultimate source of strength and power of this human condition. The Celts knew. You explore this from the gentle side without the rage and posturing of men. This piece is wonderful and thought provoking stuff. Bravo!

Hey, Mary: A very enriching piece to empower women; I’ve often considered the adage, “Men can’t make a baby, so they have no right to tell a woman when and where they can create one.” It is in truth that the fatality of man lies in the womb and hearts of women. Being men, it is in our most primal nature to avoid neutering; rather, we instill survival and the instincts of protection (of course considering today’s modern man, these traits fall short of some men). Women are the pinnacle of love, understanding, and compassion; they are the bearers of light and life; but, let’s not forget, without Adam there would be no Eve; and without, Eve, Adam would have surely died, regardless of the serpent’s ploy. It is in equality that humanity can shoulder the day to days woes, when man falls, he needs a woman to lift him back up. I enjoyed reading this, and thanks again for sending some of your readers to my work. Take care.

Strongly titled and themed. This has intensity

Rather blistering if you ask me. One of the best feminist pieces I've read.
