Welcome To The Plastic Life

Welcome To The Plastic Life

A Poem by Maskedthoughts

It's difficult you see,
There's the ups and the downs;
The close long talks on a smelly bus....
Then a distant period of a loud abyss of silence
Is everything always this fake?
How can you go from telling someone,
Your every thought, your every fear
How can you be so vulnerable?
And then suddenly the masks return,
And you fall back into the familiar steps;
Of whispers and secrets.
It shouldn't be this way.
How can you go from hating someone,
For everything they do
For everything they are; then the next
Minute you greet them with open arms
And happy hearts.
It's harsh, it's cruel.
It's a vicious cycle,
One that is entirely our own.
Welcome to the life of plastic friendships
But I know if you scratch at the surface hard enough
The plastic will crack apart,
And underneath will be the person I know
But to crack that surface i would need
A bulldozer, I would need a miracle.
And in this world, my world
That doesn't happen.
Welcome to the life of plastic
Enjoy your stay.

This reminded me of high school so much. I don't miss it one bit. Lol I love the truth in your poems how relatable they can be.

This poem is very nicely written. Unfortunately, there is a lot of truth to your words. I noticed even in the
adult world, you find that people who claim to be your friend , can be just as shallow and phony.

I apologize for the typo. You are very welcome.
I honestly praise you for writing this because it perfectly describes the idea of friendships nowadays, especially those in highschool. It really just shows how shallow some are willing to be in order to be accepted by certain people, how they feel the need to backstab others will get them an award or discovered by a new group. The need to fit in and be accepted is so great now that it's hard to imagine being alone and not having any friends, no one to turn to or talk to in your times of need or deepest trouble. In the end, we truly just have to depend on ourselves and not so much on others because down the road, no matter how long or short it may be, they are bound to stop caring and not bother being there for us anymore. Great write! Truly love this along with the title. Very creative.
