Forgiveness

Forgiveness

A Poem by Matthew Ryan Hardy

As my love comes to an end,

I’m glad to see your face,

Looking at me for the first time,

Saying how you didn’t know I meant everything I said,

Asking for forgiveness,

I just look away,

I’ve been through a lot in the past,

Not knowing what the future brings,

I can’t even picture you and me

Forgiveness
Why do we need it
We ask for it
but are unwilling to share that joy
It is the ultimate test
One given from above
But in time
You will learn to receive and share it
Even if your wings are tattered and torn
It is one thing that with time
Can be the ultimate gift
To any soul

The struggle for forgiveness. I liked that you ended without granting that forgiveness. The lack of a period at the end really emphasized the fact that the struggle to forgive the other person still goes on for the speaker, even after the ending of the poem. The kind of melancholy tone came across really well with the words you used and places you chose to end a phrase. I really like that the line "I just look away" the shortest, which made the whole poem kind of hinge on that one line. This was also where a shift came in, going from talking about the past to talking about the future. I really liked this poem. Thanks for the RR.

well, that's a sad one. it really hurts if the one you love didn't trust your sincerity. you'll think of every possible reason on why that is and eventually, maybe, blame yourself. and after all the pain she gave you...a simple sorry wouldn't just be enough. but i think the wounds do heal as time passes. and someday the scorned will learn to forgive...thought provoking this piece is. wonderful :)

forgiving is never easy an it depends on what that person has done to you but that being said i guess you never truly forgive someone unless u say i forgive u an mean it otherwise its meaningless.

good poem short simple to the point and so so true

So melancholy and full of hurt. Very well written. It makes the reader feel your pain.

forgiveness is hard....moving on is harder.. it reminds me of the old saying though.. 'forgive and forget'

Sometimes we must move on, without the past, with no grudges!

Fair enough and we move on to the next lesson in relationships, sad but true nothing lasts forever. I like your form in truth, it is dry without hatred.

Excellent poem. Forgiveness is hard, and it's hard to explain your actions to that special person. Loved it :)
