Splitting

Splitting

A Poem by Max Whipple III
"

..myself into pieces

"

The focus crushes me

what’s left of my life

pushed to the periphery

merely an oversight

in the wake of enveloping panic

the lights go out

my breathing magnified

my heartbeat audible and isolated

can I beat back this tremor

before I am lost in the quake

splitting my life apart

where does your destruction end

and my perpetuation begin

it’s all blurring together

except your image

burned into dreams..
