The Blade of Ambition

The Blade of Ambition

A Poem by Maynard Winter
"

A poem about everything I can't stand about the competitive graphic design

"
I'm only smiling at you
I know who you are
Where you work
What you've done
I've seen all your moves
I know all your skills

I read the same blogs as you
And post on the same bulletin boards
We're on the same social networks
I've read your blog
And listened to your podcast

I watch you work and play
My patience is infinite
While you're chatting on your cell phone
And drinking with the guys

I'm working

Honing my skills
Studying the masters
Growing as an artist and work maker

When you slip, when you fall
I'll be there to keep you down
My work will shine brighter
and I will replace you

Your fall was your own doing
I won't laugh or take pleasure
Nor criticize or care
I won't have the time
