I Set It Down

I Set It Down

A Poem by Mary
"

Sometimes grudges, past hurts are nurtured as if they are our children. We name them and hold them dear to us. But what happens when one is lost?

"

I set it down

just a second ago…

that Grudge I’ve been holding...

now where did it go?

It’s not in my Baggage

of Past Hurt and Pain.

nor is it in Pride.

Is it hiding In_Sane?

Without it I just won’t

know what to do

on that some-day day

when I bump into you.

I might have to accept

that this is the end

of the heart-to-heart combat

of used-to-be friends.

first of all, it is promising that you initially set down that grudge. secondly, the fact that you seem to have lost it is pure poetry...this write is very imaginative and quite well thought out. a lesson for life's better values encompassed within a very poignant and clever prose. well done!

Thanks so much! And I hope it never is found
You've made your point in such simple terms yet obviously felt a far more complex emotion. Grudges are like those nasty places that fester until they poison .. seems you found your own remedy .. finally. Well put, Mary.

They can, they shouldn't. We're all human :) Thank you!
A grudge can be replaced by forgiveness...and finally by forgetfulness...

and when it's forgotten, then it's gone for good.
Love this! Grudges really can slip away and i can find myself think "wait, why am I not supposed to like this person again?" its kind of a good feeling :)

It is amazing, isn't it? When you create grudges and carry them, only to one day let them go after their weight becomes too much to bare, to realize that they are lost, and now you don't know how the heck to feel. Best not to have them in the first place, I think. I love the meaning behind this. I love the metaphor. Nicely penned.
