Not There

Not There

A Poem by Michael (Letters and Lifelines)

This charade is stupid.
These lies don't change my mind.
This make-believe is useless.
I can't keep pretending all the time.

I miss the little moments,
When I felt us grow so close.
They dance around my mind.
And that's when I miss you most.

I often think of all the hours,
I could have spent with you.
The time has passed me by.
Now there's nothing I can do.

I remember feeling nervous,
Sitting by your side.
You brushed against my arm,
And I felt our hearts collide.

Just tell me-
Do I cross your mind...
When I'm not there?
If I looked right now...
Would I catch your stare?
Please don't believe it...
When it seems like I don't care.
Because I hear your voice...
When you're not there.

I remember feeling nervous,
When I gave you that first ride.
Now the seat is empty,
On this endless, daily drive.

I miss the simple moments,
And all the times we used to have,
When we'd whisper random thoughts,
And make each other laugh.

I often think of all the words,
In the things you used to write.
I look for hidden meanings,
When I read them every night.

And I never felt more numb,
Than when you left me all alone,
As you walked away with roses,
From someone I didn't know.

Just tell me-
Do I cross your mind...
When I'm not there?
If I looked right now...
Would I catch your stare?
Please don't believe it...
When it seems like I don't care.
Because I feel you with me...
When you're not there.

The time has passed me by.
And there's nothing I can do...

But now I think I'm feeling...

Like I just need to be near you.

I understand this poem. Hard to grasp the truth.
"The time has passed me by.

Life is unfair. People we love the most. Don't return the love the same. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thank you very much, Coyote!
I really love the beginning leading to your hearts colliding and the hidden meaning in the letters. I am not sure if you need to repeat the Just tell me part again. But, really nice emotions and reflections. Nice work, Michael!

My pleasure!
In contemplation and in random thoughts memories come back about those wonderful moments that we lost and will never come back...A well written poem...:)............

You are welcome...:).........................
oh how painful it is to lose someone we love to a stranger...and we keep asking ourselves what we could have done differently...or what that person has that we don't---

when you are so used to having that person by your side...there is an empty space that is glaring.
