Closer

Closer

A Poem by Michael (Letters and Lifelines)

Come here...
Please sit with me for now.
Hold me...
Please try to calm me down.
I'm shaking...
But I can't shake this fear.
Don't leave...
I really need you here.

Please help me...
This time I cannot run.
Please tell me...
This is almost done.
Lay here...
And just hold my hand.
It feels good...
To know you understand.

Can you stay,
Until it's over?
I'm scared,
Please hold me closer.
Lay your head,
Upon my shoulder.
And stay,
Right here, by my side...

So I can close my eyes.

Speak to me...
Just tell me anything.
Read out-loud...
Or find a song to sing.
I'll just listen...
I need to hear your voice.
And I would stop this...
If I had the choice.

Please save me...
This time I cannot hide.
This fear...
Comes from deep inside.
I prayed...
And now I think I see,
That a silent God...
Has sent you to help me.

Can you stay,
Until it's over?
I'm scared,
Please hold me closer.
Lay your head,
Upon my shoulder.
And stay,
Right here, by my side...

So I can close my eyes.

This felt...a bit like a panic attack, then love. You craft emotion in the most wondrous of ways my friend. I enjoyed.

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing, my friend!
There's always emotion in your piece, Michael. This is another breath-taking craft.
Sometimes, being with the one we love, we don't feel any fear...for that someone makes us strong.

I love this one. Lines are so powerful. Kudos!

I love the rhyming scheme of this poem, it flows so smoothly. This was a wonderful read, and I agree with Scott on the fact that this poem just screams emotion and vulnerability. The thing I love most about this poem has to be the powerful ending:

"lay your head,
upon my shoulder.
And stay,
right here, by my side...

So I can close my eyes."

great write

Thank you very much for the amazing review, Mufasa!
Wonderful write Michael. This is so heartfelt that the emotion leaps off the page.
Your vulnerability speaks volumes to the kindness in your heart.
My admiration for this.
