First Love

First Love

A Poem by Tamika Finley

They say your first love just can't be your first love..
Cause in all actuality, at that age, you can't even spell love..
And if it's only platonic, you've never felt love..
And if you don't fight, break up and make up, it's not real love..
You're in your mid thirties, married, with children and you're talking to me about love?
You're a bitter black woman who talks so much about how you lost your love..
And you're 40 trying for the bachelor role, steadily running away from your love..
Wouldn't know love if it walked up to you and said "hey, I'm Love"..
So how dare you tell me my first love can't be my first love?
