Drunken Thoughts

Drunken Thoughts

A Poem by Tamika Finley

When I wake in the morning..
With no memory of tonight's events..
Should I take that in a negative light or positive?
Because, yes..
I would like to forget..
Forget that I fell down in the middle of the street..
Caused a bar fight..
Made my lover so mad that he stormed out in the night..
But, for..
If I can't remember,
I can't apologize..
If I can't remember,
I won't understand in depth what I did was wrong..
And I won't remember you coming home..
Coming home to tell me that you love me and that you understand..
Your words: "We all go through things, and some things just isn't that easily to get over..
But, no matter the weather,
You'll always have my shoulder..
My shoulder is yours, it belongs to you,
in any time of need.
You want to cry, vent, yell, or just sit in silence..
This shoulder here is never cold or bitter..
You're beautiful with all of your flaws and crazy ways..
I wouldn't rather have you any other way."
Your words, I'd like to remember..
I'm losing it as I close my eyes on this drunken night..
It's all fading away, while I close my heavy eyes..
heavy heart..
heavy feelings..
heavy drinks..
drunken nights..
drunken thoug.....

Author's Note

Tamika Finley
the last line "drunken thoug....." was supposed to be like the character fell asleep in the middle of the thought.. but it's drunken thoughts if it were to be completed.
(Just making sure you all understood what I did there)

Awesome work here! Very self-reflective. I've known quite a few people in this boat in my life, this piece literally made me understand things inner-most things about these people that have eluded me until this. Very good poem, arguable so revealing and analytic that it can be seen as a kind of sacrifice in the name of a very important public service- understanding the other.
Thank you for sharing.
