"What If's"

"What If's"

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

"What if's" are tricky things.
 Careful what pondering brings.
Your thoughts are prayers sent.
Placing power on event.
The ideas that you confide,
When your mind and heart collide,
Can cause you more torment
As your future self is bent.
Or if your thoughts are pure,
"What if's" can be a cure
A peak into your soul
The pieace that makes you whole.

Nice poem, Melanie. Your poem reminds me of the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for." The last four lines of your poem put an upbeat to the entire message (in my opinion) behind "what if." I try not to cry over spilt milk. "What if" this and "What if" that mess up my serenity!!! Thanks for sharing your poem.
