A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

My Friend Is Jesus

Children’s Version

Words and melody by Melanie Shanks

Chorus 2X

3X- My friend is Jesus

Jesus is my friend.

If I’m lonely or I’m sad; Jesus is my friend

If I’m grounded ‘cuz I’m bad; Jesus is my friend

When my friends won’t play with me; Jesus is my friend

When I am too short to see; Jesus is my friend

Chorus 2X

If my favorite team gets beat; Jesus is my friend

If I do not earn a treat; Jesus is my friend

When I am not feeling good; Jesus is my friend

When I don’t do things I should; Jesus is my friend

Chorus 2X

When my homework is too tough; Jesus is my friend

When we can’t afford cool stuff; Jesus is my friend

If my room is never neat; Jesus is my friend

If my brother takes my seat; Jesus is my friend

Chorus 2X

When I can’t go out to play; Jesus is my friend

When I’m having a bad day; Jesus is my friend

When I’m broke without a dime; Jesus is my friend

He is with me all the time; Jesus is my friend

Chorus 2X

Jesus loves me, this I know; Jesus is my friend

In God’s word it tells me so; Jesus is my friend

When I’m wrong or when I’m right; Jesus is my friend

He’s the Way, the Truth, the Light; Jesus is my friend

Chorus 2X (emphasis on the last line)

This is a very good poem! Jesus is indeed a good friend. He helps us always, and that shows in your piece. I like your poem a lot!

Funny you should write this-I was the scapegoat on my street as a very little girl..and then I read one of those little golden books about Jesus when I was 5. I fell in love with him by the end of that book-simply because it said Jesus loved little children and told his apostles not to stop them from coming to him..at 5 yrs young I really needed to know that someone actually wanted me to be around..I like how this piece tells the story on the left side with the chorus on the right throughout nice style-
