NorthStar

A Poem by Melissa

Don't let me go
Don't let me down
Don't build me up
Just to watch me frown

I look up and see our star
I need you and no one knows
How strong my feelings are
From my head to my toes

My heart jumps at the sound of your name
My eyes light up, makes me feel insane

I'd cry at night
Everything I feel
Wanting to be on another flight
And finally make this real

I've never wanted someone so bad
I hold you close just to have you leave
When everything I do drives me mad
All I can do is sit and grieve

Distance is a part of the puzzle
You, me & this life
My heart needs to gain some muscle
Just in case there is a knife

But I can't help myself,
I fall in love,
With the grains of sand on my shelf
That holds the day that was undreamed of

I've felt and witnessed first hand the emotions and feelings of being addicted to someone. But like an addiction, there have been bad parts. The craving you get when you're trying to resist or withdraw yourself from it. Then when you get that fix, the high last for a lifetime. Kind of like love. Has its good and bad sides.
The longing for someone, the lengths you are willing to take. The risks. Love really has no boundaries. Can be a good and a bad thing as well.
Your piece got me thinking about a lot of feelings both hidden and expressed. It felt like a proclamation of your undying love for someone and how you "ache" for their presence in your life. How they sort of fill an empty void whenever they are with you.
I liked the calmness of the last 2 lines "With the grains of sand on my shelf. That holds the day that was undreamed of"
Very beautiful ending. Wraps up the poem brilliantly.
Overall, great job. :)
